In 1947 Joe Emsley started his business as a 24-hour vehicle recovery service in Yorkshire. Not long after he purchased a jib crane to augment his lift capabilities and expand his business to construction sites. From there Emsley cranes grew and expanded over the next several decades.

Joe's two sons joined the business in the 1970s and the company expanded even further. They now have a fleet of 55 telescoping boom cranes servicing all corners of the UK. The cranes are available 24 hours a day, every day of the year along with quality customer service. The family-owned company believes in personal service to every client, even making site visits when necessary.

Emsley Crane also believes in offering the best equipment. That's why their fleet includes cranes from Liebherr, Grove, Terex, Tadano, Kato and more. Their standard hire service allows the customer to plan and execute the lift while a contract hire lets the company assume full responsibility. Clients interested in purchasing a used crane from Emsley have that opportunity as well.

Emsley Industries and Sectors

Emsley Crane offers four different types of mobile cranes: city cranes, truck-mounted cranes, mobile towers, and all-terrain cranes. The types of industries and sectors they are involved in are what you'd normally expect from these standard crane categories:

  • Public Works - The city cranes offered by Emsley are routinely found working on public works projects in urban environments. These projects would include waterworks, road reconstruction, small bridge repair, and so on. Their compact size and flexibility make them easy to manoeuvre around tight city streets.
  • Light Construction - Truck-mounted cranes are very well suited for light construction work and materials handling. Built on the backs of straight commercial trucks these cranes typically have lift capacities of no greater than about 30 tons. They're ideal for modular home construction, office building construction, and moving construction materials from warehouse to job site.
  • Heavy Construction - Emsley's all-terrain cranes are what the company hires out for heavy construction. These sorts of jobs would include things like windmill erection, bridge construction, power plants and factory construction, lifting roof-mounted HVAC systems, building shopping centres, and so on.
  • Infrastructure - All-terrain cranes are also common fixtures on infrastructure projects, especially where new bridge construction is concerned. Their heavy lift capacity makes them a good choice for bridge building where large spans are built on the ground and lifted into place.
  • Mobile Tower Cranes - Mobile towers are the biggest of the cranes in the Emsley fleet. They offer the greatest lift height and heaviest lift capacity; they're designed for extra tall and heavy jobs. Though not as capable as a stationary tower crane, their mobility and fast set-up time make them a better option on a job where only one or two lifts will be necessary.

Recent News Featuring Emsley Crane Hire

This past October Emsley Crane continued its commitment to being a family-based business giving back to the community. They provided a free crane hire to the Scarborough Engineering Week festivities in an effort to help promote careers in manufacturing and engineering among UK youth.

The company donated the lift and the services of its crew in order to lift a replica of the Bloodhound SSC (supersonic car) into the Spa Grand Hall. Lift specialists chose a 55-ton Liebherr LTM1055 all-terrain crane for the job.

Over the summer the company accepted delivery of a brand-new Terex AC80 all-terrain crane. It is now the fourth AC80 in the Emsley fleet; a crane the company loves because of its compact size and over-the-road performance. You can hire out one of Emsley's AC 80s, the LTM 1055, or any of the other 55 cranes in the company fleet. Just contact their headquarters or their north depot for details.
